Smudging
is an ancient ceremony consisting of using the smoke of certain
herbs to purify our energy fields. The Native Americans used the
smoke, usually of sweetgrass, to carry their prayers to the Great
Spirit. Before healing can occur, negative thoughts need to be
removed. The herbs are either placed on a rock or shell to be
lit or they are tied in sticks and lit. While the herbs are burning,
gather the smoke into your hands or use a feather and brush the
smoke over your body. We start at the heart, over the head and
down each arm and down the rest of the body.
