Karuna, a Sanskrit word, in its most simple form can be translated as "compassionate action accompanied by wisdom". When enlightenment is experienced, it is as if all beings are one, making it natural for compassionate action to be shared with everyone without distinction. Due to that oneness of all beings, Karuna is not only shared with others out of love, but also out of logic. As you would heal yourself, you would also heal others out of compassion. Karuna Reiki® opens you to become more closely related with all enlightened beings on the physical plane as well as in spirit.

The Karuna Reiki® system, developed by William L. Rand, founder of the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT), evolved from the Usui Reiki system. Several Reiki Masters had channeled the symbols used in Karuna Reiki®. William used the symbols and upon meditation of these symbols, developed an attunement process. Karuna Reiki® energy is different than Usui Reiki in that most practitioners find it more powerful and encompassing. The energy has more of a surrounding effect than simply flowing through.

Our first experience with Karuna Reiki® was "Wow, this is some powerful stuff!" This energy goes deep, very gently, but quickly. When a healing issue arises, with Karuna Reiki®, it can be discovered, processed and healed within moments. Most deep, emotional issues can be healed without the recipient having to re-live the unpleasant situation.
